The Cowal Highland Gathering is the largest and most spectacular Highland gathering in the world. From the very first event in 1894, the Cowal Gathering has become a world famous institution and has gone from strength to strength. Now Cowal attracts more than 3500 competitors - many from Scottish communities-in-exile as far flung as Canada, the United States, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

The Gathering's schedule includes many diverse and prestigious competitions such as Highland Dancing (the Scottish and World Championships), Pipe Band (the Cowal Pipe Band Championships), Solo Piping, Track Athletics, Heavy Athletics, Shinty and a 5K run.

Hundreds of dancers and thousands of pipers and drummers come to compete at Cowal, and many thousands of spectators flock to enjoy this fabulous display of talent.

The Cowal Pipe Band Championshiops is one of 5 major competitions in the pipe band calendar. Approximately 150 bands compete in this event which culminates in the spectacular site and sound of the massed bands - 3000 pipers playing in unison is something you will always remember. This is followed by a March Past from the stadium through Dunoon town centre. The entire event is rounded off in the evening with a spectacular fireworks display on Dunoon Esplanade.
